Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood located in The West Island of Montreal is what you might call a "sleepy" location. It is the West Island, to those not familiar with it, is a large region that runs from Lachine to the west. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time there was short. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa. Her first ambition was to be a dancer. However, a growth rate increased her height and she outgrew all of the dance partners she had. She admitted in an article published by the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall, even when she wears heels. The moment I outgrew my male counterpart and stopped dancing, I quit. A lot of former dancers go on to acting and in the case of Brugel, it was the nudge of a high school drama teacher that encouraged her to go in that direction. One of her teachers suggested she audition for an annual school production. The audition was successful and she was chosen in the role of Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and earned an Associate in Fine Arts degree in 2000. Since then, Brugel's been performing in over 60 plays, big and small. Most notable was when she landed Rita's role in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel played the role of Rita in the Handmaid's Tale, a series that was filmed over ten years ago.
